The most common hair oiling mistakes. Are you doing it right?

The popularity of natural hair care methods allowed hair oiling to become trendy once again. We are more and more eager to reach for natural hair oils, but we also make more mistakes. How should you not apply oil to your hair?

Hair gets along well with natural oils because they contain essential fatty acids. Those, on the other hand, are a part of the protective hydro-lipid layer of the outer part of the hair. What’s more, natural oils contain valuable vitamins and minerals. Does that mean it is enough to smudge a bit of random oil on the hair?

Frequent errors during hair oiling, which we unknowingly repeat, extend the journey to the noticeable improvement in the condition and appearance of the hair. How should you not apply oil to your hair?

COMMON HAIR OILING MISTAKES

Using oils that do not match the hair’s needs – we tend to forget that all hair has different structures and various problems, therefore, there is no one, universal product. Coconut oil will not bring benefits to everyone. You must remember that the best oil is the one that matched hair porosity. Low porosity hair prefers plant butter (rich oils abounding in saturated fatty acids), medium porosity hair is fond of, for instance, sunflower oil, jojoba oil, macadamia oil, however, high porosity hair needs oils with larger particles, such as argan oil, evening primrose oil or cottonseed oil.

Applying too much oil at once – all beautifying treatment must be conducted in moderation. The fact that we use twice as much product as it is recommended does not mean that it will work twice as fast or twice as good. When applying too much oil, we can damage the hair, overburden it or block the hair follicles. Excess oil is harder to wash out as well.

Using only one hair oiling method – hair loves variety, thus you should not limit yourself to one way of applying oils. It’s a good idea to change both the method and favorite oil from time to time to provide your hair with something new. The oils can be applied dry, wet, hot, as a mist, in a bowl, at night, with a conditioner, to tips, to the scalp and in many other configurations. The choice depends on what your hair needs at the moment (whether it is in need of intensive regeneration or adding shine).

Single or irregular use of oils – natural methods of hair care are effective, however, they require a bit more time and regularity. After applying oils once in a lifetime, there will be no amazing changes visible, the hair will not suddenly regain health and become stunning. Therefore, hair oiling should be done on a regular basis (for instance, at every hair wash or every week) and for a long period of time. The effects will be seen after a week weeks.
